Standring Family Update 2023

Hi dear friends and family-- 2023 has been quite a year with so much happening! It started with us arriving home from our Utah holiday trip discovering that our dental office remodeling project had a major issue going on. The local contracting company (who you would think would be aware enough to know better) had removed the roof prior to the holidays and covered the whole top of the building with tarps in a questionable plan to hold out the inevitable rains we always have in the winter in Crescent City. Well, sadly, we discovered how inadequate that plan was and we were horrified to find it was raining iINSIDE the building (as well as outside) throughout the whole place when we got back and checked on the progress of the construction. Staff members helped put kiddie pools and buckets all over and carpet had to be pulled up, down to the plank flooring, and ceiling tiles were leaking and falling all over the place. It was a nightmare scenario, but due to needing to keep up dental wo...

2022 Family Update

For the Jim and Lori Standring Family, 2022 brought trips to Hawaii's Big Island with Kira (volcanoes, waterfalls and scuba diving with manta-rays), Mexico and Alaska on cruises, touring Sweden (including meeting relatives) and Latvia and Estonia with Daniel in BYU Men's Chorus (and us to Iceland on the way home), San Diego for Lori's birthday, Thanksgiving with Jim's Mom and his brother and family for the first time in years in Fullerton, CA and a big Spa Day at Fairmont Sonoma for his Mom's 90th birthday, Jim's ideal 65th birthday in his Southern California hometown of Fullerton (planned by him with his favorite activities--beach at Corona del Mar and Newport, boating, fishing, go-carts, 5K's for some, scuba diving at Catalina with Daniel), son Garrett's graduation in June as a new DMD (Dentist) in Arizona at Midwestern University School of Dentistry, Kira's graduation in December from Utah College of Dental Hygiene as a new Registered Dental...

Family Holiday Letter and Update 2021

Well, here it is December 2021 and it seems like it's been quite awhile since we did our last family newletter! We did a blog post update a few years back ( standringfamilyupdates. blogspot.com ) but not much in the last few years, so just to get caught up again--     Jim is still working at his dental office here in Crescent City. He contemplated building a new larger building here, since it is a pretty underserved area, but decided after weighing all factors that adding on a couple operatories to his existing building, which is in a great spot, made more sense. That will likely happen in early 2022. For our church duties, he and I had been working in the Medford, Oregon temple (our nearest one) on a monthly basis up until all temples closed for the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. It has not resumed a schedule yet, due to planned remodeling, but will likely start again also in early 2022. We have been spending some more time down in Fullerton in Southern...

Past holiday update 2015/2016

[Hey, this is just 2015/2016's holiday letter/family history that never got completed till January 2017...You can read it if you want, or file it away or whatever...it just helps get us to write up our family history!]--Well, well, it has been one of those years where I never got my holiday letter out for the 2015 Holidays, so now I end up doing one later on--in this case, delayed till past our youngest son Daniel's high school graduation half the year later or something! We also had our 4th son, David, graduate from Brigham Young University with his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering just under a couple months before Daniel's graduation, so 2016 became a big year for graduations in our family (our last college graduate previously was Garrett in 2014 with his Bachelor's in Exercise Science).      As far as for 2015, we had brought in the New Year with a fun celebration at church that I planned with help from our Young Women's group and we ca...
